My name is Michael Landrum, and I am a conservative Republican candidate for judge of the 129thCivil District Court of Harris County.
Please take a few moments to consider my qualifications, experience, conservative bona fides and service to Republican candidates and organizations. I hope you’ll agree that I am the best qualified, most experienced judicial candidate in my race.
Our Civil District Courts are responsible for deciding disputes of all kinds involving individuals and businesses including negligence, contract, real property, consumer, employment, and many other types of cases.
I have always believed the conservative approach to serving as judge is to follow the law established in our Constitution and by our Legislature, and not to make law from the bench to fulfill an agenda.
Serving as a judge is a sacred trust. You and your neighbors are more likely to be personally affected by a judge’s rulings than by the actions of any other elected official. I understand and believe that an independent and efficient judiciary will always be the last bastion of democracy.
There are a few things I’d like to share that may assist you in making your voting decision:
I am the most qualified candidate, and not only because I have been representing businesses and business people longer and in a more diversified variety of cases than my opponents. I have worked hard to obtain specialty certification in two fields of legal specialty that relate to the matters heard in a civil district court: my Civil Trial Law certification was awarded in 1989 and my Civil Appellate Law certification was awarded in 1995 by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. None of my opponents has been awarded a specialty in any area of law.
My experience in court outstrips that of all of my opponents combined. Considering only the data available online from the office of the Harris County District Clerk, the record shows that I have appeared as counsel of record in more than 300 non-family cases, while the same listing for all three of my opponents combined shows appearances in fewer than 50 cases total. The Clerk’s record does not include the thousands of cases I decided as Tax Master for the District Courts, and it also omits the more than 200 cases I’ve decided as an arbitrator. In fairness, the Clerk’s record does not show cases in which my opponents and I may have appeared in other jurisdictions.
I have been involved in numerous Republican campaigns through volunteering my time and financial contributions made to many candidates and organizations. I was frankly surprised to learn that none of my opponents has ever made a single financial contribution to a Republican candidate, according to the data available from the Texas Ethics Commission. I was also surprised to learn that two of my opponents voted in the 2008 Democratic primary, and that none of my opponents has voted in a Republican primary more than once. I have a consistent Republican voting record going back more than two decades.
This year’s primary Election Day is May 29th– that is the day after Memorial Day. Early voting begins on Monday, May 14 and runs until May 25th. If you wish to vote early, you can do that at any of 37 locations throughout the county. Those locations can be found by clicking this link: Early Voting Locations
I ask for your vote, and request that you ask family and friends to join you in supporting me for judge of the 129thCivil District Court.
